BAFANA BAFANA LIFT THE COSAFA 2021CUP

Bafana Bafana are the 2021 COSAFA Cup champions. South Africa beat guest side Senegal 5-4 after sudden death to lift their fifth Cosafa title.

The game had to be decided on penalties after it failed to produce any goals after hundred and twenty minutes of play.

Bafana Bafana were looking to defend their perfect record in this year’s tournament against guest side Senegal in the final of the Cosafa Cup tournament in Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape.

South Africa were still without a loss in five matches, and they still had to concede a goal since the tournament started two weeks ago. Bafana Bafana were looking for their first Cosafa title since they won in Namibia back in 2016. They crossed swords with a side that came from two goals down to draw 2-all with Eswatini in the semi-finals on Friday, before winning 3-nil in a penalty shoot-out.

The hosts had scored nine goals in five games, with Senegal having scored eight and conceded six. The visitors used their physical strength to try and contain Bafana Bafana.
Both sides created very few scoring opportunities in the first half that failed to produce any goals.

Senegal coach Joseph Koto got a red card on the stroke of half-time for arguing with match officials.

Bafana Bafana players pleaded for a penalty early in the second half but the referee waved play on. The West Africans also pleaded for their own penalty in the 64th minute.

South Africa were denied a goal by the Senegal keeper Pape Ndiaye 19 minutes from time.

Ndiaye made another important save three minutes later. There was no goal after ninety minutes and the game went into extra-time, which also failed to produce any goals.

Bafana Bafana scored their first two spot kicks, before Ndiaye denied Ethen Brooks. Captain Veli Mothwa also saved a penalty and it went to sudden death.

Nyiko Mobbie scored South Africa’s first spot-kick in sudden death. Then Ndiaye balloned his kick over the bar to hand Bafana Bafana the 2021 Cosafa title.

Eswatini finish third

Meanwhile, Eswatini beat Mozambique 4-2 on penalties in the third place play-off match earlier.

Mozambique were the first to score in that match through Martinho Alberto Thauzene six minutes before the break.

Kethokuhle Mkhontfo got a late equaliser for Eswatini, and the match had to be decided on penalties. Eventually Eswatini won 4-2 on penalties to clinch third place

LOOTERS CALLED UPON TO VOLUNTARILY SURRENDER LOOTED PROPERTY OR FACE POSSIBLE ARREST AND CRIMINAL RECORDS AS THE INTEGRATED RECOVERY OPERATIONS CONTINUE

LOOTERS CALLED UPON TO VOLUNTARILY SURRENDER LOOTED PROPERTY OR FACE POSSIBLE ARREST AND CRIMINAL RECORDS AS THE INTEGRATED RECOVERY OPERATIONS CONTINUE

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJOINTS) co-chaired by the SANDF, SAPS and the SSA, has welcomed the influx of calls and tip-offs recieved via the MySAPS app from various communities in both KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, which have seen the integrated security forces recover volumes of suspected stolen property whose value is yet to be determined. By this morning a total of 3 407 suspects had been arrested on various charges since the violence erupted over a week ago, with only one suspect granted bail, 1 122 expected to appear in different courts in the two most affected provinces, and the remaining dockets under investigation.

In the concerted response by the NatJOINTS to the recent acts of unrest and opportunistic criminality, where tensions now appear to be simmering down, security forces have embarked on recovery operations with the collaboration of citizens who have gone out of their way giving tip-offs to the police, and some cleaning up their streets and business premises that were affected by the looting in the past week.

A warning has also been issued to those who were not part of the looting spree but are buying stolen property from the looters that they too, will be arrested for being in possession of stolen property.

In Gauteng during integrated operations at a number of hostels in mostly Tembisa, Johannesburg, Alexandra and Moroka over the weekend, 14 suspects were arrested for being in possession of suspected looted property. Amongst the goods recovered were bed mattresses; television sets; couches; fridges, sound systems; computer screens and laptops; steel frames; grocery, and clothing items.

Meanwhile in KwaZulu-Natal 92 suspects have been arrested over the weekend for being in possession of stolen property.

The NatJOINTS has at the same time also reiterated the call for people to refrain from inciting violence by creating and circulating inflammatory messages that seek to do nothing but elevate the levels of tension, confusion and fear amongst communities. These messages instil fear in our communities and undermine the authority of the State.

To this end, police in the West Rand District in Gauteng arrested two suspects, one on Thursday evening 15 July 2021 in Roodepoort and the second suspect on Friday, 16 July 2021 in Westonaria, both on allegations of creating and circulating inflammatory messages with the potential of inciting violence. They are expected to appear on Monday 20 July 2021 before the Randfontein and Westonaria Courts respectively. A third suspect, a 21-year old woman was arrested in Duduza in Ekurhuleni District on Saturday 17 July 2021 on similar allegations. She is expected to appear before the Nigel Magistrate Court on Tuesday 21 July 2021.

The JOINTS through its Intelligence Coordinating Community (ICC) is also aware of more messages cropping up and circulating on various social media platforms, threatening to attack police stations and disarm law enforcement officers; attack courts of law and key infrastructure such as fuel pipelines and refineries; and more looting.

The JOINTS has subsequently mobilised maximum resources to address these threats and heighten visibility. Measures have also been put in place to ensure stability, and the protection and safety of  those who are not involved in the unrest and wish to go on with their daily routine.

Members of the public should continue to report criminality to the police, which may be done anonymously by calling the crime stop number 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS app that can be downloaded onto any smartphone.

Mortuary Assistants Shares Details Of Their Day To Day work

By Theodorah Mawasha

KGAPANE -

During one of the speeches, the MEC of COGTA (Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs) Dr. Nkosasana Dlamini Zuma gave strict guidelines to ensure mortuary assistants’ lives were preserved. Due to the nature of the pandemic, hospital and private mortuary assistants had to observe strict regulations and protocol which made their jobs even more challenging.

However, the unsung heroes are often overlooked. The nature of their work requires them to have skills that will assist in dealing with grieving families while maintaining composure regardless of the circumstance.

The reality is that the workers are often the ones who require psychological help because their job is daunting and unpleasant.
According to the department of health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana, many of these workers shy away from sharing their thoughts and experiences citing that it’s a sensitive matter. “The mortuary assistants are the ones who usually help with moving bodies from storage units to autopsy tables. Furthermore, they are a pivotal point in transferring bodies to funeral homes and once they arrive continue to perform light housekeeping duties which can be very depressing”. He said.

Kgapane hospital mortuary assistants said “dealing with dead people is a tedious exercise. You wake up and don’t look forward to anything in the day. Especially now during the pandemic because more people are dying every day. It gets worse because we sometimes lose the appetite for food after seeing a decomposed body. In any case, like any other job, we wake up every morning and come to work. You get used to seeing all of it in time but it requires you to be strong.”

It was further mentioned that the statement mentioned the sad reality behind the statistics and the news that is shared every day. These workers are doing great regardless of the nature of the job. It is however true, not all heroes wear caps

Nkowankowa-Doctor Dumisani Chauke was sentenced to eight years in prison for criminal sexual assault on Tuesday, November 3.

Nkowankowa-Doctor Dumisani Chauke was sentenced to eight years in prison for criminal sexual assault on Tuesday, November 3.

The 55-year-old Medical Doctor, from Nkowankowa, was sentenced by the Nkowankowa Regional Court for raping a 17-year-old girl. The incident took place on 17 October 2017.

“The Doctor whose surgery is based in Nkowankowa, raped the victim after she visited the surgery for a consultation. The victim was placed on the bed for a medical examination when she suddenly experienced some pains. She then realized that the accused was raping her.

“The victim quickly rushed out of the consulting room and went straight home where she informed her mother about the ordeal.

“A case of rape was immediately opened and the initial Police investigations ensued. The accused was arrested shortly afterward.

“The case was allocated to Detective Sergeant Helray Mmola from the Saps Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit who meticulously investigated the matter until she acquired this heavy jail term”, said Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed the sentence on both hands. “We hope that this jail term will serve as a deterrent to all perpetrators of these types of crimes and other criminal activities, especially the professionals who are supposed to protect any victim, that crime does not pay”, concluded General Ledwaba
